Overview
The BR550 is Rizzini's rounded-action side-by-side for game shooting.1 The US gun has ornamental engraving, Grade 2.5 walnut, a splinter fore-end and a concave solid rib.1, 2 The Round Body has a flat pistol grip, a wooden butt plate and an English fore-end with a push-button release.3
The Round Body has a fixed mechanism and locks with a double Purdey-type closure.3 Rizzini fits automatic ejectors and a selective single trigger, and offers double triggers in the US.3, 1 The 16-bore is built on the 20-bore action, and the .410 on the 28-bore action.3

Identify and date
The Round Body has a rounded steel action with ornamental engraving finished by hand.3 On the gun tested by Armi Magazine, the Rizzini emblem sits on the butt plate.8 The BR552 differs in having long sideplates.9
Italian proof stamps sit on the rear underside of the barrels and on the action.10 Among them, the year stamp records the year of proof.11 On 1 June 2020 the proof house replaced its letter code with the year's last two digits in a rectangle.12, 13, 14

Proof date
The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.11, 12, 14
Before you buy
- Read the chamber mark against the specification for the gun's market: the Round Body sheet gives 28/70, while the US BR550 sheet gives 3-inch chambers except in 16-bore.3, 2
- Check the comb as you mount the gun at high targets: in The Field's test of a 16-bore, the slim comb could let the shooter lose sight of the bead.7
- Check the trigger and grip against the order: US guns come with a selective single trigger or double triggers, and a pistol-grip or English stock.2
- On a US gun, count the choke tubes: Rizzini supplies five flush tubes.2
- Look at the muzzles of a Round Body to see whether it has fixed or interchangeable chokes; Rizzini offers both.3
