he MX2000 range includes engraved Perazzi for game, , and .1, 2, 3, 4 The blued MX2000/8 has its name in gold, and the nickel-plated version has no gold in the name.5 The suffix distinguishes the MX2000/8, with a removable unit, from the MX2000S, with a fixed one.5, 6

On the MX2000/8 and MX2000/3 the removable trigger unit has flat or coil springs.5, 7 The MX2000S has a fixed single selective unit with coil springs.6 The MX2000/3 adds a three-notch adjustable and an adjustable .7

The game MX2000S has a parallel and a game , and the Sporting version a tapered and a beavertail .1, 2 The name MX2000 also covers an unsingle for the US market, and MX2000RS an unsingle combination.8, 9

Identify and date

The nickel- MX2000S that Gun Mart tested has the model logo on both walls, surrounded by scroll .14 The black- gun that ShootingUK tested has MX2000 S in gold on the sidewalls.19 Italian proof stamps are on the rear underside of the barrels and on the .20

The Italian proof-year stamp dates the proof test.21 In the letter code, BN stands for 2000 and CU for 2019.22 From 1 June 2020 the replaced the letter code with the last two digits of the year in a rectangle.23, 24

Proof date

The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.21, 22, 24

Before you buy

  1. Confirm the full model suffix and the unit: the MX2000/8 has a removable unit, the MX2000S a fixed unit with coil springs.5, 6
  2. Ask for the service record of a leaf-spring MX2000; the NSSA-NSCA instructor recommends regular servicing for these guns.25
  3. On removable- guns, check for alterations to the ; because wood is removed around the , bending the after manufacture can cause problems.26
  4. Check that a two-barrel set has its spare barrel; on the MX2000S Sporting and MX2000/8 sets, the spare is designed for -reduction tubes.17, 18
  5. Check the against your own measurements; the NSSA-NSCA instructor advises against buying a new Perazzi made to anyone else’s.27

History

Perazzi records that D. Gelisio won silver in women’s double with an MX2000/8 at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.12 In Perazzi’s catalogue the MX2000/8 sits beside the MX8 in the Olympic and double- range.3 The two share the same listed specifications, but the MX2000/8 adds an engraved frame and the model-name finish.3

In the Sporting range the MX2000S sits beside the fixed- MX12 and MX20.2 The MX2000S too adds an engraved frame and the model-name finish.2 Perazzi’s model list also includes the MX2000/3 and MX2000S/3.28
