Before you buy

  1. Confirm the before choosing cartridges: the Velocity AR, LR and FR target guns have 2¾-inch chambers, and the Waterfowler 3-inch.36
  2. Make sure the piston matches the gun, field or target; Fabarm forbids swapping them because their porting and piston weights differ.6
  3. Check that replacement parts are made for the XLR5; L4S barrels, stocks, action assemblies and pistons do not interchange with XLR5 parts.37
  4. Inspect the bolt and gas piston for fouling. Fabarm recommends a thorough clean and a thin coat of oil, not heavy lubrication.38
  5. Check the threads and seating; Fabarm calls for a little lubricant and a tight tube, without overtightening.38

History

Fabarm launched the XLR5 at the start of 2008; XLR stands for extra-long range.9 Closer work with Caesar Guerini led to the Velocity in January 2012.39, 40 Fabarm records John Yeiser breaking 25 American targets in 64.14 seconds with an XLR5 Velocity in San Diego on 7 November 2013.41, 23
