Overview
The Summit is Caesar Guerini’s target over-and-under, sold in the US in Sporting, Limited, Ascent and Impact Sporting configurations.1, 2, 3, 4, 5 The Sporting has a nickel receiver, a schnabel fore-end and a parallel rib.2 The Limited has a case-coloured receiver and deluxe Turkish walnut.6
The Sporting’s boxlock receiver has large bearing surfaces and replaceable trunnions and locking lugs.7 Its trigger uses DTS, the Dynamic Tuning System, which adjusts pull weight, take-up, overtravel and length.8, 2 The stock has a palm swell, cast-off and toe rotation, and is available left-handed.9
The US Ascent pairs a fixed 10 mm high rib with a Monte Carlo stock and an adjustable comb.10, 4 The Impact Sporting has a 17 mm high rib that adjusts the point of impact from 50/50 to 80/20.5 Both have satin-blued receivers and rounded fore-ends.4, 5

Identify and date
The serial number sits on the receiver, in a position that varies with model and year.22 On a tested Impact Trap Combo, Caesar Guerini appears in gold on both sides of the receiver and SUMMIT in gold underneath.23 The barrels and action carry proof stamps, and the barrels also carry the barrel weight, chamber length and bore diameter.24 The related Magnus Sporting adds a classically styled sideplate receiver.25
On Italian shotguns, the proof stamps sit on the rear underside of the barrels and on the action.26 In Conarmi’s table of date codes, BP stands for 2001 and CF for 2010.27 From 1 June 2020 the proof house has stamped the date as the last two digits of the year in a rectangle.28, 29

Proof date
The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.30, 27, 29
Before you buy
- Match the choke system to the barrel set: the current US specifications give MAXIS Competition chokes for 12 gauge and Extended Competition Selecta for the smaller gauges listed.2, 4, 5, 3
- Read the chamber stamp: the 2007 28-gauge Sporting had 2¾-inch chambers, but the current US specification gives 3 inches.24, 17, 2
- Check the rib: the US Ascent has a fixed 10 mm high rib and the Impact Sporting an adjustable 17 mm high rib.4, 5
- On an Ascent, check the comb adjustment: its DTS system sets offset, cast, height and drop.31
- Inspect the Sporting’s bearing surfaces, trunnions and locking lugs; the bearing surfaces are large, and the trunnions and lugs can be replaced.9
History
Summit target guns were part of Caesar Guerini’s first production range in 2001.1 That first over-and-under range came in 12 and 20 gauge.1 By 2007 the US specifications also listed 28-gauge Sporting and .410 Limited Sporting configurations.17, 21
Caesar Guerini introduced the high-rib Impact series in 2010.32 A Summit Impact Trap Combo tested in August 2025 had 32-inch over-and-under and 34-inch unsingle barrels.33, 34 The set had a Monte Carlo stock and a four-way adjustable comb.33
