he Cynergy is Browning's low-profile for hunting and clay target shooting.1 Its MonoLock Hinge pairs quarter-circle recesses in the walls with matching projections on the barrel .2 Early British guns have a rounded hog's-back ; the Pro Sport and Pro have conventional stocks and recoil pads.3, 4 The Classic Trap has a Monte Carlo with a right-hand and a modified semi-beavertail .5

The Reverse is mechanical: it does not rely on recoil to set the second shot.6 Rectangular pins with Browning's Wear-In Relief lock the action.7 The CX pairs this mechanism with Impact and a in the top-tang safety.1

Identify and date

The serial number sits under the .62 The side of the top barrel carries the and length, and the right side carries the -system inscription.63, 64 In Browning's serial system, the Cynergy's model code is 132.65 The year code sits between the sequence and the model code; ZM, for example, stands for 2010.66 Browning's 2018 list of factories places the Cynergy at Miroku, Japan.67

Browning serial date code

Two letters encode the last two digits of the year of manufacture. Browning gives this key for the Citori in 1976–1997 and from 1999, the Superposed in 1976–1986 and the Auto-5 in 1976–1997. The Superposed places the type code first, as in 213RT01001. The Auto-5 example 01001RT151 and the later Citori example 01001NN131 place the serial sequence first. The Superposed and Auto-5 examples denote 1976, and the Citori example denotes 1999.69, 70, 71, 72

Before you buy

  1. Check that the MonoLock Hinge surfaces and ejector cams are greased; Browning recommends grease on the cams and specifies a light grease on the hinge surfaces to prevent galling.73
  2. Check that the fore-end latch locks flush with the bottom of the fore-end.74
  3. Read the choke inscription on the barrel before choosing tubes: current 12- and 20- barrels take Invector-Plus, 28-bore and .410 barrels take Standard Invector, and neither system interchanges with Invector-DS.64
  4. Check the of the composite comb fitted: Browning supplies a neutral comb and offers replacements with cast on or cast off.75
  5. Mount the gun to try the stock: the original British hog's-back comb differs from the conventional stocks of the Pro Sport and Pro Trap.3, 4

History

Browning introduced the Cynergy in 2004.8, 9 The 20- and 28-bore versions followed in 2005, and the traditionally stocked Classic series in 2006.76, 77, 78, 79 In 2007 the range gained Feather, Feather Composite and Euro Sporting configurations and more Classic versions.80, 81
