Overview
The Beretta 682 Gold E is a competition over-and-under for Sporting, Skeet and Trap.1 Its low receiver has a dual-colour finish with an ellipsis graphic.1 The US Sporting has a Schnabel fore-end, and the Skeet and Trap versions have beavertails.2 Versions with an adjustable stock use Beretta’s Memory System to set comb height and cast.2
The action locks with two self-adjusting conical lugs and has replaceable hinge pins and barrel shoulders.1 Its Optima-Bore barrels take long Optima-Choke tubes.1 The trigger blade moves to three positions to adjust length of pull.1 Beretta supplied the US gun with two trigger shoes.1

Identify and date
The barrel side carries the gauge and chamber length.18 Optima-Choke barrels are typically marked OB beside the gauge.19 Italian proof stamps sit on the rear underside of the barrels and on the action.20 The year stamp dates the proof test.21

Proof date
The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.21, 25, 26
Before you buy
- Check that extended tubes stay secure; Gun Mart reports that they loosen readily.27
- Have a gunsmith assess hinge-pin and bolt wear; both parts can be replaced with oversize ones.28
- Judge an older competition gun by its condition, because competition shooters fire many cartridges.29
- Match replacement tubes to the barrel system; Beretta’s choke families do not interchange.30
- Check that the trigger blade locks after adjustment; an Allen screw retains it on the gun tested in the UK.31
- On an Unsingle, check the rib and comb adjustments; Beretta supplied it with an adjustable rib and a Memory System comb.32
History
Gun Digest dates the Gold E Sporting, Skeet and Trap to 2001.33, 34, 35 Beretta’s 2003 US catalogue lists those versions and a Top Single Combo.1 In 2007 Beretta added an Unsingle for American Trap, with a fully adjustable rib.32 The Unsingle has a 34-inch barrel, and the combo versions add a 30- or 32-inch over-and-under set.32
