he 486 by Marc Newson is a , recognisable by the walnut bridge around its .1, 2 Newson gave it a rounded receiver without sharp edges and a distinctive .3 The stock has an English , a splinter and an integral wood pad.4, 5

The is selective and the safety automatic.4 The comes with fixed or removable , while the 20- and 28-bore guns use Optima-Choke HP.4, 6 The 12 and 20 have 76 mm chambers; the 28 has 70 mm chambers and 28-inch barrels.4

Identify and date

The barrel side carries the and length.10 An Optima-Choke HP barrel is marked OB HP beside the gauge, and its tubes are marked Optima-Choke-HP.11, 12 The Italian sit on the rear underside of the barrels and on the , where a year stamp dates the proof.13, 14

Proof date

The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.14, 15, 16

  2. Match replacement tubes to the barrel’s choke family; Beretta’s choke families do not interchange.6

  5. Read the chamber marking before choosing cartridges: the 28-bore has a 70 mm chamber and the larger bores have 76 mm chambers.10, 4

History

Marc Newson dates the project to 2014.7 Beretta announced the gun in the United States on 25 November 2014, after its European launch, with a private debut in New York planned for early December.8 The design moved the safety into walnut and used laser inspired by Asia and the pheasant.2, 9
