he Montefeltro is Benelli’s for upland hunting and clay shooting.1 The US standard gun has a satin walnut , while the international Black has a technopolymer one.1, 2 The revised Italian 12- has a less sloping receiver back and a white-backed model inscription below the ejection port.3, 4, 5

The Montefeltro adopted Benelli’s rotating locking head in 1983.6 Its wraparound receiver carries a detachable group below.6 The US standard gun comes with Improved Cylinder, Modified and Full Crio tubes.1

Identify and date

The receiver and barrel carry separate serial numbers and official .37 The barrel also carries the marking.38 The Italian year stamp dates proof; since 1 June 2020 the has stamped the year’s last two digits inside a rectangle.39, 40, 41 Notches at the front edge of a Benelli tube identify its constriction.42

Proof date

The stamp gives the year of proof. CZ applies up to 31 May 2020, and 20 from 1 June 2020. The later stamp encloses the year’s last two digits in a rectangle.39, 43, 40

Before you buy

  1. On guns covered by the Montefeltro Line manual, check that the cap contains its spring and holds the barrel firmly against the receiver.44
  2. Inspect the firing mechanism and bolt assembly for residue; Benelli calls for both to be cleaned and lubricated.44
  3. Check that the plates and shims carry matching letters: DX for right and SX for left.45
  4. Match length to the barrel’s seat; internal tubes must sit within the muzzle.46
  5. Check the supplied tube set against the configuration: the 2025 US standard has Improved Cylinder, Modified and Full, while the Silver has Cylinder, Improved Cylinder, Modified, Improved Modified and Full.1, 13
  6. Use at least the minimum loads: for the US standard gun, the 2025 catalogue gives 3-dram, 1⅛-ounce loads in 12 and 2½-dram, ⅞-ounce loads in 20 .1

History

In 1983, the Montefeltro adopted a rotating locking head and wraparound receiver.6 The Montefeltro Super 90 reached the US market in 1987, and its name shortened to Montefeltro in 2012.47, 48 Benelli revised the receiver in 2022, and the US refresh followed for 2023.49, 50 The refresh added a two-piece shell latch to ease loading into the magazine.51
