he MK60 is Miroku's fixed- , sold in Universal Sporting configurations for game and clays.1, 2, 3 Miroku's earlier catalogue lists a 12- Universal and a 20-bore Sporting, each in Grades 1 and 5.4 The 30-inch Grade V that Sporting Gun tested has a full , a and hand-engraved medium scroll.5, 6

The barrels hinge on a full-width pin and lock with a flat bolt beneath the lower .7 Coil springs drive the , which pivot from below; the sears hang from the top strap.8 The single uses inertia to prepare the second shot, and the shares the top-strap safety.8

Identify and date

The serial number is on the frame under the .24 A mark on the barrel shows whether it has fixed chokes or takes Invector or Invector Plus tubes.25 Miroku adopted Browning's date letters for its serial numbers; MV, for example, stands for 2005.26, 27

Before you buy

  1. Check the fixed chokes on the gun itself: the catalogue gives ¼ and ¾, but the 30-inch Grade V that Sporting Gun tested has ¾ and Full.4, 21
  2. If removable tubes have been fitted, check them against the barrel mark; Invector and Invector Plus tubes do not interchange.25
  3. If multichokes have been added, ask who fitted them; Teague and Briley fit tubes to the internal bore measurements of each gun.3
  4. Check how the safety works on the gun for sale; the 20-bore Grade 5 on test came with a non-automatic safety, which a gunsmith could alter.28
  5. Read the chamber mark on a 20-bore before choosing cartridges; ShootingUK's Grade 5 test gun had 3-inch chambers proofed for magnums.15

History

The MK60 replaced the MK6000 in the mid-1990s.10, 29 By 2013 the Universal Sporting range offered Grades 1 and 5, 28- and 30-inch barrels and 20-bore guns.30, 2 Miroku lists the MK60 in its MK series, developed mainly for Europe.1
