he B525 is Browning’s for game and target shooting, sold in the US as the Citori 525.1, 2, 3, 4 A decorative shell sits at the top of its frame.5 The 2024 Sporter 1 has a 10 mm ventilated and B525 S .3

Browning fits the joints between the barrels, frame and by hand.6 The lets the shooter fire either barrel first, though Trap versions fire the lower barrel first.7, 5 The automatic throw out fired cases and lift unfired cartridges for removal.8

The Composite has an overmoulded and and an adjustable .9 The 2024 Sporter Laminated has a laminated and B525 SL .3 In the US, the Field has a close-radius and a .1 The Golden Clays four-barrel set comes with 12-, 20- and 28- barrels and a .410 barrel.10

Identify and date

The upper barrel carries its and length.157 The safety shows S when it is on; on selective versions, O and U show which barrel fires first.7 On the US Citori, the serial number sits under the .158 Browning places B525 manufacture in Japan, and the inscription on the barrel gives each gun’s place of manufacture.159, 160

Later Citori serial numbers encode the year in two letters.161 The serial 01001NN131, for example, belongs to a gun made in 1999.162 Some limited editions use other formats.163

Browning serial date code

Two letters encode the last two digits of the year of manufacture. Browning gives this key for the Citori in 1976–1997 and from 1999, the Superposed in 1976–1986 and the Auto-5 in 1976–1997. The Superposed places the type code first, as in 213RT01001. The Auto-5 example 01001RT151 and the later Citori example 01001NN131 place the serial sequence first. The Superposed and Auto-5 examples denote 1976, and the Citori example denotes 1999.161, 162, 164, 165

Before you buy

  1. Read the and length on the upper barrel before choosing cartridges.157
  2. Match the tubes to the gun’s system: the B525 manual lists 50 mm Invector and 62 mm Invector Plus tubes.11
  3. Count the tubes against the version: the 2024 Sporter 1 came with four and the Composite with five.3
  4. Check that the tubes seat fully and stay tight; the B525 manual calls for them to be checked at intervals.11
  5. Check the proof and restrictions before using steel shot: the 2003 catalogue’s steel-shot statement covers only B525s fitted with Invector chokes.138 The manual separates standard steel cartridges from high-performance steel, which needs a gun tested for steel shot.11
  6. Ask to see the work: fired cases should eject and unfired cartridges should lift for removal.8
  7. On Micro, Reduced , Liberty and Adjustable versions, confirm which the gun has before comparing fit.2, 3, 166

History

Browning introduced the Citori 525 in the US in 2002.4 The B525 followed in Europe in 2003.12 By 2012 the range included Game 1 and Sporter 1 configurations.136, 154

Browning revised the Sporter in 2023 with matt black barrels, a grey adjustable and new .167 The revised also takes counterweights.167 The Composite appeared as new in the 2024 catalogue.168
